If you smell gas, immediately extinguish all smoking materials and any open flames. In addition, don't operate any lights, telephones, appliances or cell phones as flames or sparks from these sources may cause an explosion or fire. If you smell propane gas that you think might be leaking, you should immediately leave the area and get everyone out of the area or the building where you suspect that gas might be leaking.
Once you leave the area, you should try to shut off the main gas supply valve on your propane tank if it is safe to do so. When you have exited the area and are safely away from the source of the smell, report the leak immediately from a neighbor's home or other nearby location by calling ServiGas immediately. If you can't reach your propane retailer, call 911 or your local fire department immediately. More than anything, do not return to the building until your propane retailer or the local fire department has determined that it is safe to do so.
Finally, you should always have a qualified and trained service technician from Servigas perform a complete system check and any of your propane appliances to make sure they remain leak-free before you attempt using them.
